Sound proofing renovation for sex parties

April 30 2021

Hi all, does anyone know the ideal/minimal insulation rating in walls for a sex party? Renovations are about to commence and we currently have regular R2.5 but are wondering if that's sufficient. The play space will be on the 1st floor, and we're inner city so pretty close to neighbours. Any thoughts from seasoned Sam's and Samantha's is appreciated!

Sound is rather hard to stop as it can travel quite easily . You could use “ soundchek” as the wall linings but there is an obvious dearer $ difference to standard plasterboard . Other than that invite the neighbours over and the worries are over . Cheers

Damm fat finger , also no point just doing the walls as sound goes in all directions , eg floors, ceilings , doors , windows . There are products a builder can use but does become expensive . Hope this helps Cheers

Bahaha, loving this! At a starting point upgrade from standard insulation to rockwool sound deadening, it's not that much more. Standard interior gyprock walls are 10mm and not very dense. Look at using two layers of either 13mm soundcheck or 13mm firestop and seal every tiny little gap with fire rated mastic (I mean every single gap). Avoid downlights if you can and use sealed enclosures behind power points and light switches. For glass look at viridian soundstop, thicker panels work better than double glazing for sound. For door sealing look at raven fire seals all round and make sure the doors aren't hollow core. If it's just your property down stairs thick wool carpet and underlay, rather than hard surfaces. None of the materials are stupidly expensive, but the labor cost will be $$$ if you cant do any of it yourself. Did I mention sealing EVERY single gap! Use fire rated mastic rather than no more gaps, the end result is night and day. Have a read of "the red book" on the csr website. I haven't looked at it for quite a while, if sound isn't mentioned, look at the fire rating section for multi residential, it'll give you a similar result. Another good, cheap trick is to place built in wardrobes against neighboring walls.... if it starts looking too expensive invest in a couple of decent ball gags! Good luck!

I have no knowledge about this, I’m just wondering what the builders will think and how funny it’d be to leave a bit of serious bondage/torture equipment lying around while they’re in the process of soundproofing. Accidentally of course, then tell them you play the drums or something and just watch their face 😂😂 I’d definitely have some fun with this whole process!

You can have all the soundproofing you want ,but after investigating this exact thing but from A home gym perspective , A big part is about the acoustics And sound absorbing things you have in the room ,eg good sound soaking curtains , things that deflect noise at different angles and absorb so it doesn’t just bounce of walls ,etc , maybe helpful googling soundproofing gym areas , hope that helps

I don’t know what R 2.5 will give you in terms of dampening but I would suggest you could expect 85-95 Db to be generated if you also plan on a disco sort of set up. Also plan your windows (double glazing) to reduce noise transmission. As a guide, stand 3 to 4 meters away outside and get your wife to cry out “Oh my God Obi1”. If you can still clearly decipher the “Obi1” bit then you need more insulation. 😊.

Or go to a home cinema place pretend ,you’re looking at their stuff for your place in the future and pick there brains about the noise problem and solutions they advise for big assed sub woofers and action movies 🎥
