I have told this story before. And it is 100% true. I used to have much longer hair then I have now.. nearly down to my belt.. IN A PLAIT. I had it out one night.. held by a leather headband I had made. A mate and myself walked into one of our LOCAL hotels.. "The Shamrock" in Boulder WA I walked past a group of people. A girl leans out and says "Love you hair" I replied. "Wait until you feel it on your belly and thighs" Ten minute later, she was at our table..and ten minutes after that, she was on my Harley headed back to my place. I dropped her off at the motel she was staying with friends in the morning and hugged/kissed her goodbye. I watched her walk to her unit then rode off.. realizing we had NOT even exchanged names after a VERY hot sexual night. I love my long hair.. Every now and again I cut it off... and HATE myself for it.. Nympho.. let me come to Melbourne and give you a belly and thigh massage THROUGH my hair.. Guys cut their hair because SO many girls want them MANSCAPED... and they START with the hair on their head Gilrs DON'T like hairy men. *smiles* In fact, I get more comments from MALES about my looks then from Females.. Good thing is.. If I ever swap sides, or decide to go both ways.. I will break a dry spell easily enough

Long hair on males comes and goes, same as it does with women and colour. At this time hair salons are mainly responsible for the short hair fad. They don't earn income from the male population if they have long hair. Personally I like a guy with stylishly short hair. Hate having their hair all over my face in bed. Jmo.

So much that I feel the need to shout it.I find it a travesty that our modern Western culture is one of the few in history where men have neither primal, Samson-like flowing locks, nor manly, comfortable, free flowing robes/tunics/skirts/whatever.Trousers and short hair. SO PISH!I wish I could grow long hair, and in fairness I've tried a couple of times, but I inevitably give up after a few months. My hair is really thick, and looks very awkward in that 'in between' phase where it's too long to do anything with, and too short to hold itself in place. Alas, I also look pretty dashing with short back and sides (if I do say so,) and, while I usually quite enjoy flouting social norms, there's not much incentive to go to put up with rubbish hair on the way to a glorious long mane.Which sucks.Because I really really really want to look like a wizard. Or a vampire. Vampire wizard?I have resolved at the very least to grow out my white hair and beard on my retirement, should I still be gifted with follicle fecundity. Full Gandalf style, baby.

It's just not "in" at the moment. Long hair would be too annoying for me. Short hair is more professional, neat, tidy, classy.

For some guys there is a work requirement to keep their hair somewhat short and neat.Of course the balance for that is most people like that work in a uniform of one variety or another to balance out the loss of hair.

I have shoulder length hair some women love it some don't. I also have a beard, it's always interesting at parties, most women enjoy oral sex with a bearded man, even those who have had some reservations. Long hair and breads just add another avenue of tactile stimulation.

Going through my teenage years in the 90s....how I did love those long-haired grunge boys. And a lot of male actors at that time had longer hair...I think in general the early / mid 90s were a period when it was fashionable, as msmarvelous said. Not that many guys can really pull it off but those that can...yes please!!

I had long hair was kept clean. Guys are descrimated against with long hair you get single out at the airport. You get pulled over more by the police. Its hard to get served in the shops; the bank doesn't think you have any money. In short people think you are a bogan. As soon as I cut my hair the difference was very noticable more job opportunites. Girls thought you were more successfull therefore they were friendly towards you. I would like to go back to long hair but it is starting to go grey and i dont want to look like an old hippy because people judge a book by its cover. It was cool to have long hair and ride my motor bike but I paid a price with descrimation. even with two kids in the car cops would pull me over and search for drugs.

It was my uni days, with long scruffy locks and a goatee to match, the grunge look not because it was cool (I got in earlier than that), but because we couldn't afford pants without holes or fancy luxuries like haircuts. Some say I could have been Jesus, but I preferred the company of women. And then someone I admire told me I should get a haircut and a real job. He probably just meant piss off, but I took it literally, and the hair got shorter every year. Now I'm more like Ghandi, but taller, better fed, and well dressed.I'd go back, but the hair never forgave me for so readily giving it up, and I dont think the OP means she's hot for a long flowing combover.Mr C

I was shattered a couple of weeks ago when I came home from work to fine my man got the clippers out and cut it all off. Was on one of those really hot days a couple of weeks ago. He is a surfer (real surfer) not a weekend sometimes surfer. He has or had the hottest blonde wavey scruffy hair and without warning it was all gone. Had to laugh though cause that's how he is doesnt worry about things like that. He didn't check the clipper number and just went for it. ALL GONE. Heheh All good I've seen him before like this and he is a sexy man anyway. But I do love to run my hands through it. I will again so all good.

I was with a funky girl for a longer period of time.. We were due to go out for a public event in a huge park.. I came out of the house with a kilt on.. She freaked.... "Get that fckn skirt off... We are out in public..." I said.."It isn't a skirt.. I am exercising my Celtic manhood.... it is a KILT!!" She screamed back... "It is NOT a kilt.. it is a fckn skirt.. I know that, because it is one of my SHORT Peasant skirts" She had me there... I still don't know what her problem was.. I think it was because I looked better in it then she did!

I use to have long hair just past shoulders, girls loved it, the look the feel and sometimes just an extra to hold on to! Eventually I gave up on it, got lazy, tired of keeping it clean, out of my face and eyes. So I chopped it. Now I have really short shaved hair SO EASY TO LOOK AFTER and I still get the same amount of attention as before. Half my girlfriends (friend friends) hate me for it and half love me for cutting it. Just another one of those stupid things that's not really an issue.

I agree with rocker couple, it's always been my ethos that anyone who wastes their energy judging people over their alternative style choices doesn't actually hold an opinion worth caring about. Crosses over in many other area of judgement too. If someone is an arsehole, racist, etc then sure pass judgment but otherwise it's all about lifestyle choice, and as we should know, that's no-one's concern except your own.

I keep mine short as when it grows long it curls like you wouldn't believe! My facial hair ends up with red through it from my Scottish heritage so that has to be kept under control as well. Kilts are cool Cavey, I wore a Blackwatch one (I have the right to) to the Edinburgh Tattoo when it was on in Sydney and the ladies just loved it and the men all wished they had, lots of attention that night. What was under my Kilt, well you guess

Someone here mentioned long hair is not "In" at the moment.... if we all followed whiat's "in" what a boring place it would be. I wear my hair long because that's how I feel comfortable & I really haven't had it short since 1974 (Mum lost that battle LOL), if other people don't like it..who cares..I certainly don't care! Actually it has been to my advantage in this scene at times...whether it's because I look different to the general male swinging population or whether it's because some women see it as a 'bad boy' image (I'm so not LOL) or whatever it is, the majority of women I've met seem to approve. As for the comment about employment...it's interesting because at my place of work just last week we had to sit through a 2 hour session all about discrimination in the work place. Something new I learned was that in Australia it is ILLEGAL for an employer to discriminate against employing a person (apart from the usual sexist, racial & age stuff) based on facts like having tattoos, facial piercings, hair styles etc etc. If you had proof that this is why you are knocked back or sacked from a job you would win this is court. It was an outside consultant giving the info. He said employers go on about the racial & sexist stuff but do not want their people to know the nitty gritty details of the other facts. These kind of sessions at work are usually so boring..but this one was very interesting !!

People can go on and on saying how they don't care what others think of them. But when you aren't getting those call backs for jobs because the employer invoked the pot-head stereotype based on your appearance, well, maybe you should care. There's certain situations where you can get away with being alternative and conforming to any of the various subgroups, such as being in a young age bracket, because it is expected, everyone knows everybody goes through the 'I'm a little rebel' phase. But there's a lot of situations where 'rocking out' just won't fly, if you want to get ahead, someone is going to tell you, "hey mate, get a f@#ken haircut!". When was the last time you saw a solicitor with dread-locks and a clit-ring in his nose?

A young man sittin' on the witness standThe man with the book says "Raise your hand""Repeat after me, I solemnly swear"The man looked down at his long hairAnd although the young man solemnly sworeNobody seems to hear anymoreAnd it didn't really matter if the truth was thereIt was the cut of his clothes and the length of his hairAnd the lonely voice of youth cries"What is truth?" Good Vagabond... To one of Irish Catholic extraction... the name "Blackwatch" is not good in Irish history. They were a Regiment of the English army, sent as a peace keeping force in Northern Ireland around 1971 Where their history there is one of lawlessness, and Murder Their name stands beside the "Black and Tans" to this day - a reminder AND fuel to the IRA, and their Sympathizers as a call to arms in a war they believe should never end until the Crown relinquishes its' hold on the North. Here is a totally and truthfully recorded Command of conduct - "If a police barracks is burned or if the barracks already occupied is not suitable, then the best house in the locality is to be commandeered, the occupants thrown into the gutter. Let them die there – the more the merrier. Should the order ("Hands Up") not be immediately obeyed, shoot and shoot with effect. If the persons approaching (a patrol) carry their hands in their pockets, or are in any way suspicious-looking, shoot them down. You may make mistakes occasionally and innocent persons may be shot, but that cannot be helped, and you are bound to get the right parties some time. The more you shoot, the better I will like you, and I assure you no policeman will get into trouble for shooting any man." Lt. Col. Smyth, June 1920 *shrugs* Another hobby Horse maybe :)

Cavey you Fenian bastard! Oh the troubles hey, well the soldiers of the regiment were sent there by Politicians for a war based on religious principals, not a good start! The soldiers just want to keep their mates safe and get home, killing in war is normal, dying is done on both sides and war is a shitful thing. Smyth was with the Black & Tans, a completely different matter. They were Englishmen who bolstered the ranks of the Police and were infamous for reprisals against the Irish. The Blackwatch Regiment, who are Scottish, were frequent targets of the PIRA and served with distinction in very difficult circumstances, Scotsmen like Irishmen because they both hate the English and we are all interbred, funny old place the UK. I was born in Guildford where the IRA blew up two pubs known to be frequented by the British Army, the killing and murdering was done on both sides there, almost of my family live in Aldershot so that should tell you that I have no sympathy for the IRA. However I count quite a few Irish as good mates and am currently helping an Irish couple immigrate (they are Catholics from the south too!) Don't mind a pint of the black stuff and the Irish are the best musicians in the world. The Irish also have kilts brother so you can wear on from your clan, or do skirts really look better on you!!! Looking forward to a pint one day.....

I deal with a lot of high worth clients, older age bracket, etc. I attend meetings in a singlet and "tatts out". If you don't like my style, then we don't work together. I could care less, I have people lining up for my work, and I'm paid very well... the absolute top of my field.I have never, ever, felt that Ive been discriminated against. Not in this career. I had long hair down to my arse when I was in my early 20s. I cut it off when I was about 25 and I swore I would never have long hair again...the upkeep of it was a nightmare. I am quite happy with my short hair, and very few men over 30 can pull off long hair.

Well it's good to know some women still get hot from the long locks. ; ) In my 20s and 30s the ladies loved it, played with it and generally wanted to be tactile.. not so much these days (I'm 42) although I'm not out there much. I've had mine long for 18yrs and have been very tempted to cut it short. I get the occasional comment from rellos etc "Isn't it time you cut it at your age" . Ha ha - that makes me determined not to! I'm not receding and not grey so why? Is there an official (ahem.. pun intended) cut-off age for long hair or is it a case by case basis? FFB xx

did the long hair thing for a couple of decades too....it was how it was growing up in the 70's.... listening to rock n roll...feeling like we were different....funny how it now feels like we were all the same...lol, long hair, goatees halfway down our chests, earrings, tattoos, black singlets, jeans n engineers boots...who were we fooling? no one....it was the uniform of a generation. still is for some of my mates from the day...lol except its a comb over, and its slippers or sandals, not boots....and of course, blued tattoos and a middle aged paunch... i grew out of the long hair, but am growing back into the beard...never fully lost the earrings or tattoos , but have thus far avoided the paunch, the slippers and the comb over...

Oh - read back a bit further and yes - guys with long hair do get discriminated against. Coppers, customs, shops etc etc. I hardly ever wear my hair out these days. Yes, it annoys me flying everywhere in it's thick wavy gorgeousness (LOL) but its' when people assume I'm a smacked out druggie and talk slowly to me (really) that bothers me. I don't judge long haired ladies in that way.. Rather I ponder how nice it would be to gather up that ponytail in my hand and yell giddyup!! But that's another topic ; )

Soldiers are sent into battle with orders.. some carry those orders out with a little more enthusiasm than others. And Of course, I should have kept politics off a sexual based site.. sex. should always come before politics and religion anyway Tis a small world Good Vagabond.. so the pint might yet happen "Cause we know..."A pint is a pint is a pint" - is not a crime. I have long hair that goes past my shoulders and half way down my back. My wife loves my hair and honestly I have never heard anyone say anything negative about it. I have just finished a long career in law enforcement, during that time I tied my hair in a half bun so that it was neat and tidy, now I have a limousine company and all my clients always compliment me on seeing a guy with long hair still. I suppose at the end of the day, it's the person and not the hair that should be considered.

yes well.. Quoting 'bj2013' there are no reasons beside the obvious reasons.a man with long hair will be judged negatively I dont fully understand that. its not the length of hair is the stereotyping.. it show neat you present yourself with it. I mean. I used to have long hair, and i had no problem getting jobs with it. only cos i washed them and brushed them and put them into a nice long pony tail. Neat and good looking. The only reason why i cut my hair short, is that i feel the need of a different style. But that was decades ago.

i noticed several of the guys on here saying they have/had long hair and were never judged are all older (not making fun of age, lol)but my dad said a similar thing to me and my friend a while ago when he was showing us photos from when he was our age, he also said, "i wasn't judged cuz i had long hair" and me and my friend busting up laughing and were both like..."yeah, then again it was 19-frikken-78!!" lmaoand to the guy who said he has long hair and is in law enforcement, well if i was walking around with a gun and vest i doubt any1 wud be given me shit either, lol!

I've had long hair since i was 15, have never felt discriminated against because of it, have never missed out on a job because of it (actually, I've been offered every job I've ever applied for) I ran a successful business for awhile, dealing with wealthy clients, never had a problem. Its almost always clean and neat. My hair is a little shorter now, but really, it's never been much of a burden to take care of. I'm totally in agreement with Rockercouple...and I know LOTS of high paid professional and trades people with long hair and piercings and tatts, and I'll be brutally honest, I don't need a job that badly to work for someone who would consider my hair as a deciding factor as to whether I'm the right person for a job.

Hahaha, I've been told ten times at least on here that women don't like long hair. I guess it is a decisive issue for women in terms of attraction. Alot of guys now use gel and other product for hair fashion instead of the natural wave of growing their hair. Face it, women wanted prettier men and they got it at the cost of rugged, long haired men.- Posted from rhpmobile

2 answer the initial question, one of my friends has long hair and he catches shit all the time for it, so if i've seen the crap he cops, why the hell am i going to grow my hair long?? it might look cool, but it ain't that cool. apparently a few of the men here wit long hair have been lucky enough to not have to experience any crap for their hair, but i've seen first hand what i might have to put up with if i grew mine out. the benefits def don't seem 2 outweigh the risks plus it seems 2 b alot more work than doing what i always do...shave my head 4 free lol

Used to have shoulder length curls. Got too hot working in the tropics to keep them though. I do miss them, as you're right, they did attract a lot of positive attention- Posted from rhpmobile

I have long shoulder length hair, I've tried everything the cru cut, comb over and Afro. Long hair though is the best. Girls love it, it makes a good conversation starter and if it gets in the way can always be tied back. Recommend it to all gents out there!- Posted from rhpmobile

Never, ever bring back the mullet.I personally am stark raving mad for a guy with long hair. Nothing turns my head quicker than a well maintained long head of hair on a man.Mr Cruizy has long, thick, lustrious brown hair halfway down his back.He cut it off once and I nearly cried. He grew it back almost straight away.As for the discrimination thing, he has never found any problems obtaining a job or being thought of as a 'meathead'. None of our friends have ever given him a hard time about his hair nor has he found himself coming to the attention of the police because of it.If any boys out there are going to grow their hair, you do have to take care of it properly, make sure it is clean and tidy. Nothing is more of a turn off than dirty, greasy, matted hair.

I'm 50 years old with shoulder length hair, no greys no bald patches. There is not one day that passes that I don't receive at least one smart arse comment about the length of it or the colour. Its long because it now can be, for 30 years I've had short back and sides. Am I going to cut it due to peer pressure, f..k no. Here's to my time!

i've had long super curly hair for over 20 years its hard to manage so i let mine go in to dreads 4 years ago ,now its easier to look after but weighs loads when im swimming or surfing . when i had it long and curly the novelty of women playing with it or commenting on it was rather funny , it's only hair . . i like it long

Being a teen in the mid to late nineties I was extremely jealous of friends who could grow their hair long. The only hair I seem to be able to grow long is the stuff i need to hit with veet/wax/razors/lasers/napalm :) So short hair for me!

i still have long hair because i like having long hair and being different... but i would say most girls aren't into long haired guys, epecially in this weird metro age of hair products and skinny jeans, and that probably influences many's decision to not have long hair. be who you want to be i guess, not who someone else wants you to be..
