In My view this can be different in every man , depends on how he feels within himself how he carries his person and how his actions deplict his individual self it may have nothing to do with his looks at all , looks mostly are for others to see ,its how the man sees himself that can show he is man or not Just my look at it A......

So you are saying that there is no such thing as an inherently male characteristic or quality? Just a Y chromosome which means men have a penis and produce sperm, and have muscles were women do not. As for the rest we are all the same? Surely men must feel differently to women? Look at the world differently? Or again, is this just learned behaviour?

Quoting 'Meeka100'So you are saying that there is no such thing as an inherently male characteristic or quality? Just a Y chromosome which means men have a penis and produce sperm, and have muscles were women do not. As for the rest we are all the same? Surely men must feel differently to women? Look at the world differently? Or again, is this just learned behaviour? Diggin' this fossil up for lil' old me. Yep, that's almost what I'm saying. At a biological and biochemical level of course there are differences, and they have SOME bearing on our lives. HOWEVER, that 'some' is very heavily qualified and limited. Almost our entire concept of society and civilisation is built on circumventing natural urges, and overcoming that biology. Delayed gratification is not a natural urge for most animals, and yet we're able to sow fields, save up for things, conceptualise the future on a massive scale. I don't find it difficult at all to fight my urge to kill somebody physically weaker than me and take their car, or not jump somebody attractive I see on the street and mate with them, as much as I'd like to. What we see as gender roles are all too readily attributed to 'nature', but for the most part, nature is a pretty weak influencer over us. They are by far - BY FAR learned gender roles, performances built up over thousands of years of human history.Just because they're performances doesn't mean they're not powerful, don't get me wrong, but fortunately they're pretty easy to overcome once you learn to recognise them for what they are. All size, no stamina. In just 40 years of women's liberation, we've been able to partially correct a long history of inequality and power structures designed to privelege men and keep women subordinated - as recently as the 1960s in South Australia, for instance, women weren't allowed to serve as jurors because they weren't 'capable' of that level of 'rational and objective thought'. While many of these overt injustices have been at least partially corrected, a lot more of the less visible structures are still in place, particularly the ideas about gender roles and how men and women 'should' and 'shouldn't' behave. An important point to remember is that patriarchy doesn't just affect women negatively - it affects men too. It tells men that they must act in a certain way, be the breadwinner and provider, bottle up feelings etc. We're harmed by patriarchal gender roles in different ways. And these gender roles have absolutely no basis in the actual reality we live in today. You don't need muscles to make money and provide for your family. They are, for the most part, learned gender roles, and they're roles that have been used to hold back our civilisation for millenia, and commit unfathomable injustice to women throughout history. Hence I call 'shenanigans'.

And why do you think that is? Why was it necessary for men to keep women submissive but to feel better about themselves?

Quoting 'Meeka100'And why do you think that is? Why was it necessary for men to keep women submissive but to feel better about themselves? Because they never stopped to question it. Because the first thing privelege does is conceal itself from those who benefit from it.

Wonder if women would have done the same if we had been the stronger sex instead of the smarter sex. (ˆڡˆ)
