In this instance, it was more 'dramatic irony': the audience (myself) knows something the character (Hanna) does now, rendering the situation 'ironic'. It made me laugh. Cheers,MSPS - Geek never posts on the forums. If he does, you'll know it! :P Quoting 'Hesione' Expressing a meaning that usually means the opposite....I am a little puzzled too Hanna,I am not sure in what way your postwas ironic. Dear Ms,please enlighten usxHugs H

Quoting 'Hanna_ybbn' Just curious if anyone here lives by this motto; 'Pick your battles'In my opinion, dismissing someone as 'inferior' because they lack what you determine to be a decent grasp of the (written) English language is narrow-minded and somewhat arrogant.Incorrect spelling and punctuation are both things that do annoy me.Disrespect for those that don't or can't - annoys me more.Narrow-minded and judgmental is far more unattractive than one's occasional ability to lose a grasp of the English language.Disappointed.Hanna One of the great "battles" on here is sorting the genuine from the fakes, so if the text reads like English is a second language but the profile says Caucasian.Their gone for mine !

And I don't hold a person's non-grammatical-correctness against them. It is more important to listen to how they speak, not how they write. A person is a package and I like unwrapping the package and discovering all the goodies underneath.

Quoting 'turbo_staplz' if someone can't spell does it really make them any less of a human being? But, probably less of a good match. We expect to find a human being, we really want to find a good match :)

My original post was referring to those flirts you get, where you look at the profile, check out the photos and think, "hmmm... maybe... not really convinced though" and then when reading the profile you realise all the spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, whole paragraphs that barely make sense.... Would that make your mind up about returning the flirt or sending a message?

My spelling is really quite good, it's my touch typing that is terrible and on here you just can't edit anything :(

I found this on dictionary.com and I thought you folks might like to read it ;)--------------Does the ability to spell indicate one's intelligence, education, or desire? Poor spelling ability really does not have a relationship to general intelligence. However, desire, education, and intelligence do have something to do with excellent spelling ability. And the personality traits of being meticulous and organized certainly have an impact on one's ability to spell well. From some surveys that have been done, it has been found that the top spellers were more organized than the average spellers. So, the ability to spell well may be more related to personality traits or habits than other factors. You are also likely to be a good speller if you have a deep interest in language, its roots, the connections between different words via meaning and sound, and in the poetic quality of words. To improve one's spelling if one is not naturally good at it takes practice. You have to look things up, keep a spelling journal, take quizzes, etc., if becoming a better speller is your goal. With practice, you can train yourself to take pictures of words. You can add words consciously to your visual memory. Visualization is very helpful because spelling is primarily a visual activity. Many good spellers depend on visual memory to determine whether a word looks right or wrong. The more finely tuned your visual memory becomes, the better your spelling will be. Paying closer attention to the way words look also encourages you to notice the world around you more. This is a great side effect - increasing your powers of observation!

Well for me, i know i am lazy and rarely use capitals where needed. That's because pressing two buttons at once is too difficult to do one handed ;)But, lack of some basic punctuation, spacing and lazy typing are for me a total turn off, ESPECIALLY in a profile or initial message. If i have to read something three times to figure out what the hell someone is on about bcoz dey tlk lyk dis then im sorry, but im out. Fuck, it just took me longer to write those five words then the rest of my post!Occasional spelling errors or typos, not a big deal... But lack of some grasp of the proper use of grammer, well i am sorry. Call me a snob :P

Caucasian: of or pertaining to the Caucasian region, it's people and their languages. Of or belonging to a major ethnic division of the human species loosely called the white race. Pedantic? You betcha. Sorry can't find nice smiley emoticons on my iPad. ;)

This sort of problem has led to me obsessively compulsively correcting, amending and rewriting virtually all my girlfriend's work correspondence, her resume, her job applications and even half of her schoolwork. My help kept her grades up and helped her get employed(first job her in studied field, so proud!) recently but I wish people would work on their English when grammar Nazis like me aren't present.
